Commissioned by the HKSAR Education Bureau to develop and administer the programme, FSTE launched the Diploma of Applied Education (DAE) in the academic year 2023/24.  DAE, in replacement of Diploma Yi Jin, carries the torch of providing an alternative pathway for secondary six school leavers as well as adult learners (Hong Kong residents aged 21 and above) in obtaining a formal academic qualification for further study and career pursuits.

Recognition of Qualification

Students who have successfully completed* the programme will be awarded the Diploma of Applied Education (DAE).

Qualification

Deemed comparable to the attainment of Level 2 standard in 5 subjects (including Chinese Language and English Language) in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination.

For students who have successfully completed the Maths Plus complementary course, the qualification acquired under the Programme is comparable to the attainment  of Level 2 standard in 5 subjects (including Chinese Language, English Language and Mathematics) in the HKDSE Examination.

Qualifications Framework Level 3
Students who have successfully completed courses that are adopted the Specification of Competency Standards (SCS)  will be awarded a certificate on the SCS-based^ qualification thus obtained.

Aims and Features

The DAE Programme has an optimised curriculum design and content, incorporating a large number of elements of Vocational and professional education and training (VPET), communication and information technology skills etc..  It aims at helping students in further study (including but not limited to articulating to VPET programmes) and strengthening their employability.

Programme Structure

Contact Hours: 600 hours in total
Course Combination: 3 Core Courses (Group A) + 2 Complementary Courses (Group B) + 3 Elective Courses (Group C)

3 Core Courses (Group A) + 5 Elective Courses (Group C)
Core Courses: Chinese Language (120 hours)
(Group A) English Language (120 hours)
Mathematics (60 hours)
The course curriculum and materials of above core courses are centrally developed.
Complementary Courses: Maths Plus (60 hours)
(Group B) Career and Life Planning (60 hours)
Digital Citizenship (60 hours)
Interpersonal Communication and Personal Development (60 hours)
Technological Innovation (60 hours)
The course curriculum and materials of above core courses are centrally developed.
Elective Courses: Elective courses are offered in Cluster (180 hours | comprising 3 elective courses)
(Group C) A wide array of elective courses (60 hours each), which are mainly of practical nature, are offered to cater for different interests and aptitudes of students.
Study Mode: Full-time (provided by all institutions)

Part-time: normally within 2 years
Medium of Instruction: Cantonese (except for English Language Course)
Course materials are mainly in Chinese, but for some elective courses, English is used for course materials and assessment.
*Graduation Requirement: Successful completion of the DAE Programme refers to attaining an overall pass in 8 courses, achieving 80% attendance or above for each course, and having completed a minimum of 2 domains and no less than total 10 hours of life-wide learning activities offered or recognised by FSTE.

Articulation Pathway

The DAE is accepted by FSTE Member Institutions as meeting the admission criteria of their Associate Degree and Higher Diploma or equivalent programmes.  For those students who have successfully completed the Maths Plus complementary course, the DAE qualification obtained is accepted by FSTE Member Institutions as meeting the admission criteria of programmes requiring the attainment of Level 2 standard in five subjects including Chinese Language, English Language and Mathematics in the HKDSE Examination.

Employment Prospect

The DAE qualification is accepted by the Government as meeting the academic entry requirement of various civil service posts which require Level 2 standard in five subjects including Chinese Language and English Language in the HKDSE Examination.  For those students who have successfully completed the Maths Plus complementary course, the DAE qualification obtained is accepted by the Government as meeting the academic entry requirement of civil service posts requiring Level 2 standard in five subjects including Chinese Language, English Language and Mathematics in the HKDSE Examination.

Tuition Fee and Financial Assistance

Tuition Fee, for the full-time programme for 2024/25 acadmic year, ranges from $38,660 to $43,800.
Both full-time and part-time eligible DAE students will receive reimbursement of 30% of the tuition fees paid for each satisfactorily completed course*, up to a maximum of 8 courses across DAE and DYJ programmes (except for the same course).
